Plants and herbs have amazing healing abilities for the skin. However, the healing ability varies according to the various sections of the plant used. The benefits to be derived from herbs can vary greatly with the part or parts of the herb, how it is refined and/or concentrated. The variations in biological value come not only from different parts of the plant but the area that it is grown from also influences greatly the medicinal benefits of any plant.
For example nettle varies in its antioxidant capabilities quite differently between the root, stalk and leaves. Studies have shown that the root has the lowest antioxidant capability. The stalk has moderate capability and the leaves have high antioxidant capability. Our Roccoco Botanicals products only use the leaves.
Feverfew is another example which contains parthenolide which is a known contact sensitiser. Feverfew is anti-inflammatory, anti-irritant and antioxidant. It is also photo protective. In its completely natural and organic state, feverfew contains parthenolide. Purified Feverfew Extract is a purified extract that has been developed by extracting the beneficial components of feverfew while removing the harmful parthenolide component. This is an example of how naturally derived products can be more beneficial and less irritating than organic products.
Purified Feverfew is contained in our Roccoco Botanicals Plant Harmonising Serum. It is used for its antioxidant and acne benefits.
