Preservative free simply means the ingredient that is acting as a preservative is not listed on the European Union’s list of approved preservatives. It generally does not mean there is no preservation system. If there were no preservatives, your product would not last very long!
Whilst some products that are oil based, don’t necessarily need a preservative because oil can’t grow bacteria or mould. It is still good practice to include one, generally if there is risk of the product coming in contact with moisture or water. An example would be lipsticks or balms.
Our products contain preservatives that are not on the list as well, but we don’t claim preservative free. The reason why is, because it is misleading and implies there may be something wrong with the product if it includes them. Preservative free is simply a marketing tactic!
