Australia has its own species of Helichrysum called Straw Flower. Helichrysum is rich in flavonoids and acetephenones which play a major antioxidant role. It scavenges free radicals, inhibition of oxidases and ROS formation prevention. It is also antimicrobial and purifying. In addition it soothes burns and chapped skin.
Wild species of Helichrysum such as those in Australia have shown to have higher levels of antioxidants and polyphenols. Helichrysum also helps to restore the skin barrier and regulate the cell cycle in the epidermis.
