One of the primary causes of mystery breakouts is hair care. Hair care is the second most common cause of breakouts on the face and back, and yet it is one of the causes most frequently over looked. The concept of cosmetic acne was originally coined by Albert Kligman in 1972.

Acne caused by cosmetics is known as acne cosmetica.  Pomade acne or hair care acne is more common than most people realise. Cosmetic ingredients can and do have acne causing and comedogenic effects in those who are susceptible to acne. If you don’t have acne, you may notice no impact at all. However, for an acne sufferer the breakouts are extreme.

We have had cases of clients using another product that is not Roccoco and after 3 months of use their skin hasn’t improved as much as it should. It is only after extensive investigation that we find that they are using something else that is contributing to the problem and causing them to keep clogging up. Whilst we are trying to unclog their skin, another product is just filling up the pores again. Just because a product is meant for acne prone skin does not always mean it is safe. There are many brands that state the product is non comedogenic, when in fact they have ingredients known to aggravate acne.

Hair care acne usually presents across the forehead and temples. It can also be found behind the ear and even down the body. Recently I had purchased a conditioner and it had Argan Oil in it. Unfortunately for me I should learn to take my glasses shopping with me or I can’t read anything on the label.

I tried the product and now I have pimples and blackheads on my back and mid line. Seriously, how do you get pimples on your belly? Well I have them from my conditioner that I had used.

This is a problem with leave in hair care products as well. If your hair touches your face the ingredients will be in contact with your skin making you susceptible to acne.
