Peony is a traditional Chinese medicine and contains numerous components. Peony is rich in many medicinal components. Paeoniflorin—a kind of monoterpene—is the most studied medicinal compound. Peony has been shown to be of benefit for acne skins as it affects the amount of testosterone available in the skin…..when you use it your skin is less oilier and breaks out less.
Peony is also high in Oleanolic Acid (OA) and Ursolic Acid (UA). Medical research has revealed that both OA and UA have many biological effects, such as antibacterial, anti-diabetic and anti-inflammatory.
Ursolic acid has particular benefit for dehydrated skins as it has been shown to increase the amount of ceramides the skin. Ursolic acid also has anti-wrinkle properties and has been shown to stimulate the production of collagen.
Peony is a saviour for sensitive skins due to its analgesic properties, so for skins that are sensitive it reduces the reactivity and inhibits hypersensitivity.
Peony is also strongly anti-inflammatory. It inhibits the majority of inflammatory pathways. Finally Peony has anti-Glycation properties. You know that sun damaged leathery look that you can get with skin? This helps prevent it.
